It’s a gloomy and windy winters day here but i have been out with the dog for a walk to collect my thoughts so that I can complete my final homework assignment for the blogging course i have been taking. I haven’t really mentioned it but I have been participating in an online course called Blogging your Way over the last month and have found it so inspiring, not only in ways to creatively blog better but in relating it back to living your best life..
The course was created by Holly Becker of the hugely popular interior design blog Decor8and she is aims to provide ideas and guidance for bloggers..the kind of course she wishes was around when she first started out about seven years ago when blogging wasn’t so popular. I have been a reader for around five of those years and have watched as her life changed, as she moved continents and achieved her childhood dream of becoming not only an author but a best selling author in multiple countries with her first book ‘Decorate’.
So I joined up to the BYW classes to see what she had to say and i must say I am so glad I did. I am feeling a bit sad that the month is coming to a close. I have really enjoyed the classes, the forums, and the technical information but most of all I found Hollys’ positive take on it all infectious..especially that giggle on the podcasts. It makes you feel like you are chatting with a girlfriend albeit one who knows a lot about blogging.
So to complete the homework I need to think about the following……….
1. Why do I blog?
When I started blogging about three months ago it was with a simple intention to share behind the scenes, new products and design ideas with my customers and Facebook likers. I would like to build more of a personal connection but I was also unsure how much of my personal life to share but i feel it’s important for my mums and mums to be to see I am a mother just like them with the same challenges.
2. What does blogging mean to me?
I think my perception of what it is all about has already changed from being primarily an extension of my little biz to being a way to escape being drowned in washing, cleaning, spilled drinks and re runs of thomas the tank so I can connect with ideas and creativity both mine and of others which is essentially what makes me feel like me.
It means a way to connect , be inspired by others and make friends in far flung places
Most of all it is another little step to building a life based around what i love and enjoy.
3. What is one thing that stuck with you?
Well i have learnt plenty and i understand that a lot relates directly to me..my dreams, my ideas, my confidence..understanding what it is you want to out of all this..out of life. To actually state what it is you want.
One thing that has really stuck out in my mind is an answer to one of the forum questions written by one of the great blogger/teachers involved Nicole Balch of Making it Lovely blog
I think this is a concept that we can all apply to our lives on a daily basis..i have and it’s already working for me.
