Mothers Day

Yes I know I’m a bit late but just wanted to see if you all had a lovely mothers day..I know a lot of you may be having your first or still waiting for bub to come out so it is a special time.

I remember my first mothers day my husband was on night shift and he left a beautiful card and voucher for a day spa in the cot so when I went in during the early hours I found it..so cute and thoughtful.

All I wanted that mothers day..and since I guess is a nice picture of me and my boy together. It’s these special memories that I cherish the most especially as you watch them grow so fast before your eyes.

So this year we actually had a mother and son mini holiday up to Sydney. I had my cousin who is like a little sister to visit and we all stayed over at Bondi Beach at a boutique style hotel, Ravesi..right in the centre of the action. My husband and I used to live here before we were married and it now felt like that was another lifetime.

Anyway we had time to wander and hand out and just enjoy the absolutely gorgeous autumn weather we were blessed with. We swung into Ikea on the way home much to Campbells delight as he just loves to watch the planes that fly by quite low coming in to land at the nearby airport.

So we had a lovely time..memories to cherish and then spent yesterday with my own special mum. The unconditional love and support my mum has always given me has really shown me what being a mum is all about and I thank you for that mum. She is always there when I need her and she helps make Alphabet Monkey possible. If I can do half as good a job I will be going well….love you mum xx

Organic Cotton Blankets

Introducing new organic cotton swaddle blankets in our own exclusive Alphabet Monkey original designs.

organic blanket by alphabet monkeyorganicblanket2

I am excited to show you the first pictures of the new ultra soft organic jersey cotton blankets I have been working on.

When I first received some samples I was just in love with how soft and cuddly it felt..imagine a soft t-shirt… I arranged to get my own designs printed onto the fabric and it takes a bit of time to wait for the fabric to be processed and then shipped from the USA. So I get a bit impatient waiting to see how it turns out. I had hoped that they could be a lovely extra to match some of the cot ranges or an unusual gift for a new baby.

As we know organic products cost a bit more and also getting my own prints done overseas lifts costs somewhat so the price does reflect this. But I do enjoy adding products to the shop that I know are completely exclusive.

I am starting out with these three prints, Little Cloud, Raindrops and Geometric and will gauge whether or not I should proceed with more. A set of two co ordinating prints might be nice too. I am also waiting for some new cards and stickers so I can package them up so they look great as a gift.

They are available in my Etsy shop now.

Pinterest Pick..Cool Nursery

nursery by nest design studio

This weeks pinterest pick is a very cool nursery with a modern surfer vibe. I saw it this week on Belinda from Nest Design Studios’ blog and immediately pinned a few images because I knew you would love it.

Its a great pic thats for sure, combining stripes and chevron with graphic black and white cushions. Now I don’t know where that cushion is from but I know we used to sell some very similar when I was at Domayne so you might try online or a local store.
I do recognise the little yellow chevron quilt..I don’t know if it is mine but I do have them in my etsy store

You can check out more pictures of the nursery here
You can find more nursery inspiration by checking out the boys nursery board on pinterest and why not create your own boards.

Have a great weekend, nicx

PS. sorry about a random message you may have gotten from this blog..I was setting up an account with bloglovin which I’ll fill you in on later.

Pinterest Pick..Spots

Today I’d like to share with you my first Pinterest Pick..it seems a shame to keep all those gorgeous images tucked away in their little pinterest files so I’ve decided to share the occasional one with you here on the blog.

Wondering what’s next with trends…well wonder no longer because it’s spots.

pinterest pick on alphabet monkey.com.au.Spots

Although between you and me do spots really ever go out of fashion especially for kids? I personally think not.

I guess with all the hard edges of all those geometric and triangles out there we always look towards the opposite. Sticking confetti spots on your wall is a cute idea and can be used in kids rooms or even in grown up spaces. You can space them out evenly or graduate them or just go crazy and put them all willy nilly all over the place..and when you are over that you can just peel them off.

You can see more spotty ideas including fashion and homewares on my spotty pinterest board.

Happy 1st Birthday Blog…giveaway celebration

Happy birthday to the blog..we have just had a big make over and now I want to give away a voucher to a subscriber to celebrate…..

I can’t believe I was too busy doing orders, taking photographs of stock, getting organised for Cams birthday and taking part in my online blog course to improve my blog that I failed to realise that I’ve now managed to consistently run this blog for a whole twelve months.

To celebrate I want to give away a $100 voucher to be used in my online store to one of my blog subscribers.  So all you have to do is subscribe by email on the right hand side and be in the running.

It will be drawn on May 1st so there is plenty of time to enter .  After subscribing be sure to share what you would buy or order in the comments section.

Initially I wondered if I would regret committing to doing it but a year on and I must say I really enjoy it.  I love sharing my new work and I also love to use my interior design background to analyse trends and bring nursery decorating ideas to you.

I feel that we have a new streamlined look that I love, and a focused look for the next twelve months to bring the kids interiors, trend and products to you that you would like to see.  So feel free to let me know what you would like to see more of.

And most of all I do like to make this a personal space to visit too, where you can get to know me and I’d love to get to know you and how your little babies are going.  Many of you are with me on Facebook and Pinterest and I’ve just joined twitter so we will see how that goes.

Good luck and don’t forget to leave your comments below after you subscribe to be in the running.

Pls note. Winner will be drawn from the blog subscription list

On the sewing machine… modern patchwork

I have been getting so much done today I am feeling on a bit happy with myself..finally starting to catch up on orders, getting some new products done which I want to keep to myself till I can present them all to you as a range.  I’m just keeping my eyes closed to all the mess and housework..tomorrow is another day for that.

Had a lovely relaxing weekend with my two guys, caught up with friends at a yummy dinner party on saturday night and chilled yesterday after brunch at Green Poppy.

Then got into an organising mood and started purging things in our crowded garage…its all part of making home life happier but I’ll share more about this with you another day.

Just working on a few more modern patchwork quilts..this one is going to be a part of a sock monkey theme room which should be cool.
