Just wanted to let you know that we have a tiny number of King single quilts available as a limited edition range.
The quilt is pictured on a single bed and is perfect for those moving onto a big bed. They are a very generous size so I could also see them looking great on a double bed too as a throw over.
Since it’s Black Friday…I thought we should take some time to think black in the nursery.
When I first started Alphabet Monkey in 2010, black was a colour I started adding to my designs as mums were looking away from traditional colours. And today..well I think we all know the monochrome trend is huge.
But are you brave enough to actually paint a wall black? Especially a nursery wall?
Check out these gorgeous examples and I guarantee you will be won over with black feature walls in the nursery.
The dark colour actually has an effect of receding so it looks further away creating an illusion of more space..not closing it in as some people may assume.
White and colour really pops against this deep base.
How pretty yet minimal is this space for a little girl..it feels far from stark.
I personally think the rooms with timber and textured rugs are my favourites..it really create a lot of interest against the strength of the black base.
So, what do you think?
Have I won you over?
Although pastels are trending again in nurseries, I don’t think black is going anywhere soon. You could also do a similar style with navy which could work equally well in boys or girls spaces.
Great news!! Our popular Teepee XL Cot Quilt is back in stock. So I thought I’d share a few of our teepee nursery pics to get you inspired. Whether you are sticking strictly monochrome or are adding a dash of colour this quilt will fit the bill.
Our Teepee cushion seen here with our Brave Arrow cushion and grid quilt as styled by Belinda from Nest Design Studio.
Adding a dash of colour always looks great.. a touch of yellow maybe?
Not just sticking to bedlinen, we also have some cute arrow jumpsuits for both boys and girls.
Belinda knows how to style a boys room with three of her own.. here you can see our Little Teepee fitted sheet along with our Teepee cushion.
And above a dash of green and mint add some extra zing.
And if you want a dash more green our Teepee quilt in the green has just arrived too so now we have three options in the Teepee range..black/white, green, or pink/grey.
And its not only quilts in the range..we have teepee styles available in newborn blankets as well as larger double sided blankets too. Look at this cutie..it seems like an eternity since mine were this tiny.

Monochrome nurseries are popular for boys but how about adding a girly touch to our Bear bedding.
You may not have thought of using this for a girl but we just love this gorgeous black and white nursery belonging to a sweet little girl named Indi. It really shows how unisex this black and white linen can be. And of course it doesn’t look like the monochromatic trend is going anywhere fast.
Indi has a very clever mum, Kat who happens to be the brains behind Chuck and Taz. If you haven’t pimped out your pram with a liner from Chuck and Taz you better head there now. They specialise in super cool pram liners in unisex prints for boys and girls.
So our Black Bear range is available in Quilt covers/duvet covers in both single bed and cot sizes. It features the bear print of the top and the black arrow on the reverse. We also have the co- ordinating cot fitted sheets available in bear, white arrow and black arrow prints which are extra large so they will fit your larger cot mattress like a boori.

I just wanted to do an update on the Brave Arrow Indian nursery range. It has been a very popular design..probably because of the current trend for black and white nurseries as well as it’s simplicity.
Our quilt is back in stock as pictured here..black on the front with white with black arrows on the back. The Arrow cushion and the sheet are expected to be back in stock this month sometime.
And in other news I am testing samples in grey and white too so I’m hoping to add those to the Arrow range in the next few months.
Below is a sample of a cot sized quilt cover which we will also have arriving soon. Perfect for that stage between a cot quilt and moving into a big bed. Enables you to pop an insert inside for the cooler weather.
And like our Single bed quilt cover it is also reversible. this one features the Little Teepee with Tree print on the reverse side. It is piped around all edges and our fabrics are screen printed by hand onto a beautiful soft quality poplin which washes up beautifully. And best of all the blacks are strong and true and don’t fade after a couple of washes..a problem I had previously found with other fabrics and printers.
And of course our popular Ashkii single bed quilt cover set will be back in stock this month too so we will let you know when it is. Featuring the black arrow on one side and the modern Teepee Triangle geometric print on the other.

Hi, today I thought I’d share some pictures of Campbells big boy room. As you can see we managed to just squeeze in his bunk bed behind the door. I like this as it means when you look in his door you don’t see the bed taking over the whole room..as it is pretty tiny.
As you can imagine there is no shortage of bedlinen combos here…Today have mixed up a lot of black and white prints from both of my Storm and Ashkii ranges to keep an on trend monochrome look.
We kept it pretty simple with black, white and yellow.. as we had already installed the yellow retro style light fitting. But as time has gone on we have added more colour..mainly from toys and things..its kind of impossible to keep those things out so you may as well work with it.
Teepee are very popular right now and they are a lot of fun for playing but also for resting and reading a book. Campbell likes to surprise our dog Jasper who sneaks in here to have a little nap. The little cane chair is actually one I had in my own room as a child.
Below is a super simple string line which we can peg up memories.
Mixing up the black and white raindrops and arrows and teepees. This is actually the reverse of the Storm quilt.
Below are the super cute little runners given as a gift when he was born..too cute to part with.
This bunk is a lower than normal bunk. He sleeps up on top now but he was able to sleep on the bottom from when he was about two. Now its a great place to read , play on the iPad etc.
The quilt on the bottom bunk is also the reverse to our Ashkii quilt cover..the one that features the green geometric print on the front. So we can turn it over and mix things up whenever we feel like it.
Hope you enjoyed this little tour of Campbells room..I think this is the tidiest it had been in a long time. I must confess I am one to just close the door and ignore the mess..there are better things to do I say.
You can find our cushions, bunting and bedlinen in our online store here.

Introducing a new scandi inspired black and white patchwork quilt that I have just finished. Since so many of you requested the swedish cross in our Facebook competition, I have incorporated it into our own style. I have named it the Pia Scandi quilt.
While it is a bit busier than the simple cross blanket I feel that in a very basic nursery the pattern of the quilt can bring a bit of interest to an otherwise monochrome nursery. Anyway if you want that total simplicity you can just buy the actual blanket..which we discussed back here.
I’ve put it together with some other nursery ideas for you.

One thing that has really changed when it comes to creating nurseries and kids rooms is that people have become more accepting of using black.
What do you think of this??
I really like this but I am a fan of having a graphic base like this and adding in plenty of texture and colour. And really, kids toys are just so colourful they become the key injections of colour in the space anyway.
This minimalist scandinavian inspired style is so very popular for adult interiors that it is natural that the look has crept into childrens spaces.
I think it looks best with a mix of some texture and some natural finishes like some timber. It also looks great with vintage pieces and I will show you some more colourful vintage styles next week.
It is quite distinct and it is so interesting how nurseries differ around different areas of the world. For example I find that American nurseries always seem to have a lot of soft furnishing and upholstered pieces and everything is layered and matching. Sometimes to the extreme. I will do another post showing some examples. I don’t really know if us Aussies have a distinctive look , what do you think?
You can check all kinds of nurseries and kids rooms on my pinterest boards.
I would encourage you to feel free to mix things up a bit when decorating, recycle things, repaint furniture mix and match fabrics..but most of all make it yours.
You can find sources to the lovely images featured here through my nursery and kids room boards on pinterest.
