Colour Trend -Green in Children’s Interiors

Ashkii Quilt cover by www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

Green Interiors trend

I’ve long been a fan of green in boys rooms and so when emerald was announced as the Pantone colour of the Year two years ago I expected to see more of it around.  Well it has been filtering through interior design and now I’m starting to see more and more accents of green added to the monochromatic spaces of kids that we all seem to love.

And I do love it with the mint…so fresh. Are you a fan of green or not so much?  I think it will continue to grow as I’ve noticed another trend which we talk more about another day..and that is cactus.

So we have taken some fresh new shots of our Ashkii Range..I’ve loved how you guys have mixed and matched it all and I’ve loved seeing your photos in Instagram and when you email or Facebook them through to me. It’s awesome!!

Of course there is a lovely dash of the black and white arrow print on the reverse so you can fold it back and change your look.

It’s available in Single and Cot Size as a quilt cover set..so it includes a cover and a pillowcase.  They are quilt covers so you they are great for the warmer weather as you need to put your insert inside.

We also have more of our Little Teepee and Teepee Triangle (shown below) prints back in store in fitted cot sheets and cushion covers but after this lot I think we will be moving onto some new colour combos.  And we are also making it easier for you to add to your collection by offering $20 off when you buy 2 sheets..Just use code : DOUBLEUP at the checkout.  This will be an ongoing offer.

Its great to have patterned sheets on the bed to catch little moments like these chubby legs or when your bub just wakes up and gives out those big smiles. My daughter does this and my son runs in after each nap time to see it. Just grab your phone and take a pic against your super cool sheet and you have an awesome pic just ready to send to your friends and family..yes baby spam them all I say..hehe

Also in case you didn’t realise, we now offer gift vouchers( as pictured below). We can express post out a physical voucher as its always nice to have something to give..even when you have left it to the last minute.  Or if you prefer we can email a digital version which we will create and send after purchase.

Wishing you all a great weekend whatever you are up to…

6 Miffy kids spaces I love..

Miffy nursery I love www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

When it comes to bunnies, my favourite has got to be Miffy.  If you have somehow managed to live life this far and not know who miffy is… she is a little rabbit character created by Dutch artist Dick Bruna to entertain his son in the mid 1950s.  she has grown in popularity around the world ever since.

So I’ve gathered 6 kids spaces I love that use Miffy products.

It appears that any self respecting scandi space really MUST have a Miffy lamp.. they come in two sizes and the larger size is just huge…as seen above.

Miffy cushions above add some fun and of course here is another lamp.

And below the colour of the little knitted Miffy sets the tone for the colour scheme of the whole room.

Elephant Nursery Range

Pachy elephant nursery range by Alphabet Monkey, www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

I wanted to share with you the lovely new photographs of our upcoming Pachy the Elephant nursery range in mint green and grey.

They are currently available for preorder and are proving quite popular so far.

The photos were taken for us by local photographer Jade Flores of Jade Flores Photography. Jade is very clever and specialises in portrait photography.

Pachy Elephant Nursery Range by Alphabet Monkey, www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

As you can see the quilt is a generous size tucking right down on a standard size mattress..but it should be great for a boori size also but just not tucking down quite as far.

Pachy Elephant Nursery Range by Alphabet Monkey, www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

The range includes the quilt with our signature hand stitched felt appliqué elephants.  The inner is 100% natural cotton and has a lovely drape.  It has a little more weight in it than dacron or polyester type batting but I think it actually feels a little more substantial and adds to making a high quality product.  That is why I’ve stuck with it instead of switching to cheaper options..I think you will feel the difference.

So other items in the range include the patch cushion cover, the chevron cushion cover, the bunting flags, the little elephant toy buntings, the hand made elephant toy and it also matches with our grey chevron fitted sheet which coordinates with all our current ranges.

Of course all these items are also available individually.

Finally… New range sneak peek

brave moodboard ..new range by alphabet monkey.com.au

Good morning all and happy monday…

I’m very excited to present to you our next two mood board for our coming India style ranges…Ashkii and Brave.  There are many pieces that can either work together or work alone.

In fact , when I look over what we have designed and ordered I think wow..so many designs and options. No wonder it has taken so long to sort out!!  These ranges will be produced in extremely limited runs of 12 at a time.

So my inspiration for the Brave range has been to take the vibe of the American Indian trend and translate it into pieces that will look great in any space.     I’ve worked  in the arrow motif into an understated monochromatic look for those of you who love the minimalistic look or you can add it into the colour and astern of the Askii range below.

Ashkii (which means Boy in Navajo) is inspired by the colour and pattern.  And we are featuring a rich green and mint for those looking for something new.

We have collaborated with talented illustrator Pete Cromer ,  who sketched our super cool teepee design.  We love this sketchy free hand style and think it works very well in our new pieces.

Ashkii and Brave are both inspired by and made for little babes and boys who are free spirited and full of energy.

Who love to play make believe in the forest or in their makeshift teepee.

Who want to chase and roll and throw things and explore.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTS..

Our patchwork quilts will now come in the boori size as the standard size.  At 100x140cm we know you will get maximum use out of your quilt and I also think this is a great size to then use as a throw on the single bed.  We will have two styles of single bed quilt cover and matching pillowcase  and they will be reversible with cool prints on both sides (one in Storm range and one in the Ashkii/Brave range).

All our quilts will be larger than our current sizes and our fitted sheets are big enough to use on a boori cot or a standard cot so we hope we can keep more of you happy.

I am also excited about the patterned fitted sheets as I feel that it is great to be able to have the sheet be such a feature..especially when we don’t use the quilts for sleeping when they are so young (Check SIDS recommendations in your country)

I know many of you have boys that share rooms so the range will be able to be used on both cots and single beds..and you can mix in a pillowcase or a cushion here and there with what you may already have to create a coherent look in the room but that doesn’t have to all be identical.  And before you ask about king singles or doubles..no we can’t accommodate those sizes due the fabric width and printing restrictions.  So our primary focus remains on the nursery but we are allowing some options to assist you in transferring to the big bed..

I have learned over the past nearly four years of creating and growing Alphabet Monkey is that my mums and mums to be are very design savvy.  They love to invest in quality, cool design and they like to get a bit creative when putting their children’s rooms together.  I like to think that we can give you access to designer items that can be worked with in many different ways so that every little boys room is as unique as they are.  We encourage you to mix items we have with things you already own or go all out and get the full range and your little guy is set for years to come.

We will be doing preorders in June..stay tuned or keep up on Facebook.

Trend Watch.. Mounted Animal Heads

paper mache animal heads

What do you think about faux animal heads in the nursery??

This trends for faux taxidermy has been in fashion for a few years in the interiors world that I’m surprised it is still going strong.

And it’s adaption into children’s and nursery design has been growing.  I searched for mounted animal heads while doing this design board last year and struggled to find many.  Now you can do a search on google or etsy and there is no shortage of different animals and styles to be found.

animal heads paper mache

deer heads in the nursery

This understated nursery incorporates the deer heads into the design in an unassuming way. It incorporates the trend without making it the feature.

These cute guys below are a quirky way to bring the style into kids spaces but make more of a statement.

paper mache animal heads

felt animal heads for children's rooms

I suppose the most child friendly looking ones are these felt style heads.  I guess they just have a more child like feel to them which would appeal to a lot of mums to be.

I think they are quite cute but i think my personal faces are the paper macho style..I think I’d even like some in my office/studio.

felt mounted animal heads for kids

But when I asked my four year old what he thought..he wasn’t a fan.  Scary was his verdict.  But he also doesn’t like his black chevron curtains because he thinks they look like scary teeth :0

So maybe its all fine while they are tiny babies but be warned you may need to remove later if your little one doesn’t like eyes watching him while he sleeps.

Got to love their imagination!!

You can find all these photos and their sources as well as lots more on my Animal Heads pinterest board.

Trend Watch …. TeePee Fun

teepee1

With our new limited edition Indian Summer range launching this Sunday I thought it’s time to really start looking at this whole American Indian style trend.

It is evident in many areas in both fashion and interiors..from aztec motifs, arrows, geometrics, feathers, hunting etc.  I thought  we would look at how it is being interpreted into our children’s interiors over the next month starting with teepees.

So firstly I thought I’d group together some Teepee inspiration for you as they are so fun.  You can buy them , make them, make a rough one from sticks and blankets…it all depends how adventurous and creative you are feeling.

And the best thing is that there are so many ways to use them for both boys and girls.

teepee2

These gorgeous interiors are so simple yet stunning with a scandinavian edge.  The natural colour palette makes it a stylish look for any gender neutral nursery.

And look at how simple the tent above left is ….just hanging a sheet over a string..perfect fun.

teepee3

One of the coolest things about the teepee is that it makes you think of camping.  Set one up outside on a sunny day and lay inside reading while the kids run around playing.  Have a picnic and play some outdoor games..I’m sure that little girls will just love those pretty little tents for their own little private picnics.

I have also noticed they seem to be popular with adult styling for parties, picnics and events, so don’t think that its just for kids.  There are more pics in my Teepee Pinterest board.

teepee4

Or if the weather is not so great, why not venture on an indoor camping safari.

And as many parents have done..just add one to the play room or the nursery as a key style element ..that the kids will actually love too.

I’d love to have one but Cams’ room is just too small for it.  I have gathered plenty of examples for you for both boys, girls and also some inspiration for Indian styling on my pinterest board, Teepee and Indian Styling.  You should find plenty of ideas for creating a room with an Indian vibe…and don’t forget we will have lots of new products for you launching on sunday.  You can check out our pinterest board here.

teepee5

All these lovely images have been taken from my pinterest board where you can find all the sources and links if you would like to find out more.

If you are keen to get your hands on one, I would check out Etsy first as they always seem to have everything cool don’t they.

More Circus Inspiration..

I have just recently watched the movie ‘Water for Elephants’ and I just loved it. I had put off watching it because I was convinced I’d cry but despite the sadness of the hardships of the day and the animals’ treatment I was happy to see it did have a sweet ending.

So on that note, I thought I’d share a few more vintage circus nursery inspirations with you.

little gatherer circus board1

These boards can be found in my nursery inspiration board on pinterest but these particular two come from the gorgeous site the Little Gatherer. The site is a gorgeous collection of a things children. They find some amazing things and it’s well worth checking out.

There is also plenty more circus inspiration on my Circus pinboard. And I do also have a couple of vintage circus inspired quilts left in my etsy shop as well as some gorgeous cushion covers with a cool circus print.

Single Bed Quilt Covers

So I have finally listed some single bed quilt cover options due to popular demand. I have stuck with cot sizes but as your little guys grow you are coming back wanting quilt covers. Which is of course so lovely!!!

So I decided to offer them on a pre order basis and they are only available in my own exclusive designs. This way you really do get something unique. The fabric is printed up especially for you in the USA, in the colour and design of your choice. The pattern fabric is a soft organic cotton sateen which has a lovely look to it.

triangle teepee single bed quilt cover designstorm cloud single bed set by alphabet monkey

Note..the cloud print would actually be smaller than shown.

I am more than happy to say that I am glad to be able to offer these to my loyal customers who appreciate quality and uniqueness. But unfortunately due to the cost of printing fabrics in small amounts I won’t be able to offer them on a wholesale basis to the many lovely stores who have requested this type of thing.  But hey , that won’t effect you or me will it??

What I have learned over this past few years is that you..my lovely customers, really do value the idea of connecting with someone and something handmade this way. Knowing who made it..where it came from…. And you also value new, fresh, on trend design. These two points are at the heart of what I create as I move forward.

pinterest pick… Quatrefoil nursery Trend

pinterestpick

So the geometric trend continues and just evolves into different shapes. The name of this pattern is quatrefoil..apparently. I didn’t know so I thought you might not know either….

This was one of my favourite nursery pins this week..the strong colour and pattern just struck me.  I do love the wall because to me it reminds me of moroccan tiles and I just love moroccan design.

You can see more of this gorgeous nursery here or check out my nursery boards on pinterest

Baby Elias’ Cool Geometric Nursery

Hi guys,

Looks like a bit of a rainy, windy old weekend here..hope it is better for you.Today I am excited to show you another Alphabet Monkey nursery.

I love getting pics of the quilts in their nurseries and I love to share them with you all, here, on facebook and on pinterest

elias

You may recall one of the triangle prints that I designed, well here is a look at one cool little guys nursery which features the geometric look of strong patterns and shapes.

Black is another strong element which we are seeing mums’ get a lot more comfortable with in the nursery and it is used perfectly here.
Elias is a lucky boy as his mum is a talented stylist so you can be sure the rest of the nursery would be just as cool.

We have discussed the geometric look for the nursery here and quilts here and I have some more posts on the subject coming up.

I also have plenty more geometric styles coming your way or you can check out something like Elias’ quilt in my etsy shop.
