Chloe Fleury Animal Heads

The trend to use animal heads in the nursery has been around for a while but is still as popular as ever.  I wanted to introduce you to another style of animal heads created by clever French Illustrator and prop stylist Chloe Fleury.

Chloe Fluery Feature www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

Chloe currently lives in San Francisco USA with her husband, two daughters Lula and Anouk and their cat Maggie.

Her paper creations are usually adapted into stop motion animation and have been used by some of the worlds biggest companies for window displays or advertising purposes.  When I checked out her site I was surprised to see that I was familiar with many of her campaigns however I have mostly admired the clever origami like paper animal heads that are often pictured in the most stylish and quirky nurseries.

Chloe Fleury Feature www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au #animalheads #nurserydecor

Her colourful aesthetic is contagious and I just love the way she mixes it all together to create fun  looks in her spaces. Above and below you can see the flamingo head which I have in my own daughters room.  The swan design above is gorgeous and sure to be a winner as the trend for swans in girls rooms explodes.

I also purchased an elephant head to use in some of our photography and thought it looks quite good in a minimalist setting too.  The heads all come flat packed with pre marked lines to fold along and double sided sticky patches to secure.  We found them quite simple to put together.

The bunnies are super cute.. in black and white above or in the springtime colours below.  One great thing about them is that they are so lightweight and easy to stick to the wall. This is great for us as we are currently renting.

And this cute little lion head is one of Chloes’ latest designs which was also part of an advertising campaign.

I highly recommend you check out Chloes’ website as she is one clever girl.  I initially followed her on Instagram as I loved her designs but also her travel adventures. You can see the love of colour and design from far flung destinations not only in her home but also her work.

Her work is quite sought after so sometimes you may have to wait for a restock to get a sold out design..but its worth it.

I hope you’ve loved her work as much as I do and consider it when looking for something different to add to your nursery wall.

Trend- Mountain Murals

About 12 or so months ago I had a sample range made up with some little mountains on it..originally inspired by a quilt I made for my friends’ baby named Everest.

Well time flies by and I was digging around recently and found it and I thought YES LETS DO THIS!! (Watch out for updates on this )….. So then I jumped onto Pinterest and went to my Mountain Nursery board for all things mountain inspired and have discovered that this trend has really started to explode.  Particularly the mountain mural.

So lets check a few out..

mountain mural trend on the blog www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au #mountain #mountainnursery #mountainmural

The detail in this intricate layered mountain scene is amazing as is the layering of the cool colours from dark to light. It really gives the wall a fantastic level of depth.

And here is another similar one.

mountain mural trend on the blog www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au #mountainnursery #mountainmural

The blanket, sheepskin rug and the macrame wall decor though all white create interest due to their textural elements.  This is something we will look at again soon as it is important to use pattern and texture in monochromatic (one colour) spaces.

All the pattern in the wall creates enough interest allowing them to keep the rest of the space very simple.

Well, you might be thinking that these two are way out of your league..and I wouldn’t suggest trying them unless you are quite creative or handy with a brush.  But all’s not lost..lets have a look at some simpler options.

Mountain mural trend on the blog www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au #mountainnursery #mountainmural #mountainwall

Isn’t this a sweet picture too, and I do love the mustard yellow of the patterned rug and the sun giving the room some life.  The parents wanted an adventurer / mountaineering theme but have managed to keep it subtle by using  the wall as the main feature.

The more I look I see a real crossover from the teepee trend which is coming more from the Aztec American Indian inspired looks and the camping/ adventurer vibe which I think is relates back to parents wanting their children to experience the outdoors in this increasingly digital age.

mountain mural trend on the blog www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au #mountain trend #mountainnursery #mountainmural

And here is another more simple mountain style.  If you wanted to make an even stronger statement you could do them in black. Really let your imagination go wild and get out that tape and paint away.

I remember when I had Campbell that trees were the thing to have in your nursery and they were a lot harder to do yourself so I really think most of you would be able to give these mountains a go.

If you are still not sure about painting or maybe you are renting,  don’t worry you can use some stickers or create a mountain design from washi tape.

I’ve pinned so many great ideas for you and links to where you can get them as well as some DIY help, all on my Mountain Nursery pinterest board.

Leos’ serene gender neutral nursery

Lets nursery by Nest Design Studio.. www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

I have been wanting to share this gorgeous nursery space with you cause I just know that there are so many of you who keep the sex of your bub a surprise and you might be needing a bit of extra inspiration.

This simple and serene space was designed by Belinda Nihill for her third baby, Leo.  Belinda is the owner and creative genius behind Nest Design Studio and I’ve been lucky enough to have become friends with Belinda and watch her business blossom.

Lets nursery by Nest Design Studio on the blog at www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

You may even recognise this room if you follow my instagram as lovely Belinda has also put her styling and photography skills to work and we have lots of beautiful images of our products styled in this space.

That is part of the beauty of this space..its versatility.  It’s bang on trend with the moroccan rug, natural leather and wooden touches, metallic accents, a must have cot from Incy Interiors.  But Belinda has a way of blending these fashionable elements and creates a special space with a timelessness about it.  It doesn’t feel trendy but it is definitely on trend.

This is what a talented interior designer can bring to the table.

lets nursery by nest design studio as featured on www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

Belinda says that she has designed each of her boys rooms as a challenge… a way to showcase new looks and of course her design skills.

She was wanting something gender neutral but didn’t want to go down the monochrome path as she had already done that with her older boys space… we will share that another day.

www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au Leos nursery feature by nest design studio

The box is a find from their farm which had their surname and year of marriage added.. adding such personal touches makes it really special.

www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au ..nest-design-studio-leo-nursery-childrens-interior-design

I personally refer to this type of look as upmarket safari.. a more sophisticated twist on the more traditional nursery theme.  I also really love the little lion accents with his name being Leo.

The room is also peppered with lots of handmade touches from small online and instagram businesses.

www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au ... nest-design-studio-leo-nursery-childrens-interior-design-2

Belinda admits that the room has been a bit of a splurge but insists each piece was worth it, especially her nursery chair.  The only item she thinks she won’t be reusing elsewhere in her home when it comes time to redecorate is the cot.

www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au ... nest-design-studio-leo-nursery-childrens-interior-design-15

In her own words ” It really is a room that is a joy to be in. When I sit in the chair and nurse Leo , I think I let out a little sigh every time because of the peace and the calm of the space.”

And isn’t that what we all want our nursery to feel like. A little sanctuary for us to bond with our little one.. a special space to share during that tiny window of time when everything else fades away and its just you two.

In the wild.. nursery board

Keep-the-Wild-Nursery

Hello friends,

Welcome to spring… or autumn..depending on where you are.

Firstly I have this super cute nursery board to share with you.  A friend alerted me to this the other week because it includes our Roary the Bear cushion so I headed over the Project Nursery to check it out.

Christy from Belle Studio created this board for her little boy whom she is expecting very soon.  She wasn’t sure which way to go with decorating ..loving both the woodland vibe and the monochrome (black and white) trend.  Since she was starting with a blank canvas of white she decided to combine the two and came up with the above board.

The strong prints and the black and white is softened by the introduction of the woodland stump.  I’ve seen a few nurseries doing this woodland trend and it can sometimes go a bit over the top with wood everywhere ..and then some monochrome nurseries look a bit stark and cold..but this is a clever compromise.

I also really love the colour palette which is a little like a combo I’m thinking of for some new designs next year.

So head over to Project Nursery to find out suppliers of the pictured products..well except Roary the Bear..you can get him right here 🙂

Trend Watch- Cactus

cactus trend nursery mood board by www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

You may have noticed the cactus trend growing as you see the motif popping up all over the place.. kids prints, cushions, clothing. Well its just a natural progression from the Mexican trend which is everywhere in fashion, interiors and even food.

I’ve always been a huge fan of cactus..of the living variety, and I actually still have a couple from the last time aztec and mexicana was all the rage..yes showing my age here.

So i thought I would pop together a bit of an inspiration design board that could be used for a nursery or a big boys room..and I thought our Ashkii pattern and colour way went with it just perfectly.

Colour Trend -Green in Children’s Interiors

Ashkii Quilt cover by www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

Green Interiors trend

I’ve long been a fan of green in boys rooms and so when emerald was announced as the Pantone colour of the Year two years ago I expected to see more of it around.  Well it has been filtering through interior design and now I’m starting to see more and more accents of green added to the monochromatic spaces of kids that we all seem to love.

And I do love it with the mint…so fresh. Are you a fan of green or not so much?  I think it will continue to grow as I’ve noticed another trend which we talk more about another day..and that is cactus.

So we have taken some fresh new shots of our Ashkii Range..I’ve loved how you guys have mixed and matched it all and I’ve loved seeing your photos in Instagram and when you email or Facebook them through to me. It’s awesome!!

Of course there is a lovely dash of the black and white arrow print on the reverse so you can fold it back and change your look.

It’s available in Single and Cot Size as a quilt cover set..so it includes a cover and a pillowcase.  They are quilt covers so you they are great for the warmer weather as you need to put your insert inside.

Its great to have patterned sheets on the bed to catch little moments like these chubby legs or when your bub just wakes up and gives out those big smiles. My daughter does this and my son runs in after each nap time to see it. Just grab your phone and take a pic against your super cool sheet and you have an awesome pic just ready to send to your friends and family..yes baby spam them all I say..hehe

Also in case you didn’t realise, we now offer gift vouchers( as pictured below). We can express post out a physical voucher as its always nice to have something to give..even when you have left it to the last minute.  Or if you prefer we can email a digital version which we will create and send after purchase.

Wishing you all a great weekend whatever you are up to…

6 Miffy kids spaces I love..

Miffy nursery I love www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

When it comes to bunnies, my favourite has got to be Miffy.  If you have somehow managed to live life this far and not know who miffy is… she is a little rabbit character created by Dutch artist Dick Bruna to entertain his son in the mid 1950s.  she has grown in popularity around the world ever since.

So I’ve gathered 6 kids spaces I love that use Miffy products.

It appears that any self respecting scandi space really MUST have a Miffy lamp.. they come in two sizes and the larger size is just huge…as seen above.

Nursery Trend; animal photography

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose

If you spend a lot of time looking at nurseries online you quickly become aware of growing trends.  And over the past year or so I have noticed how many nurseries were featuring not just any animal photography but Sharon Montrose animal imagery. Sharon Montrose is a highly sought after animal photography specialist who is lucky enough to combine her love of animals with her love of photography.. surely life doesn’t get better than that.  Prints are available from her specialist online store The Animal Print Shop.

Artwork featuring Sharon Montrose photographyHer distinctive style lends it self to many areas of the home, however it is interesting how popular they have become in nurseries.  Animal motifs in the nursery is definitely not a new thing however I think that the interesting part is that as the trend for more sophisticated children’s spaces grows , these photographs allow the animal motif to be introduced in a more subtle , grown up fashion.

I love how the camel with the choice of light fitting gives a very exotic feel. This is actually part of one of my all time favourite nurseries which I have featured on here before here.  I actually used the feature wall as inspiration for my own daughters nursery and we have also used a SM print..but you will have to wait till we get it photographed properly to see it.

I have also noticed that they are perfect for use in a gender neutral nursery.. look at the nursery above.  This is a very simple and sophisticated space with a tribal/african safari vibe which would be at home in any adult space.

I have added many more images to my unisex pinterest board for you to discover and you will probably uncover a few more gems in my other boards too..or just head over to “The Animal Print Shop‘ to see their full range.

This is not a sponsored post..we share trends and products to keep you up to date or just because we love them.

Brave Arrow Nursery

brave moodboard ..new range by alphabet monkey.com.au

I just wanted to do an update on the Brave Arrow Indian nursery range.  It has been a very popular design..probably because of the current trend for black and white nurseries as well as it’s simplicity.

Ashkii /Brave SS14/15 by Alphabet Monkey www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

Our quilt is back in stock as pictured here..black on the front with white with black arrows on the back.  The Arrow cushion and the sheet are expected to be back in stock this month sometime.

And in other news I am testing samples in grey and white too so I’m hoping to add those to the Arrow range in the next few months.

Below is a sample of a cot sized quilt cover which we will also have arriving soon.  Perfect for that stage between a cot quilt and moving into a big bed.  Enables you to pop an insert inside for the cooler weather.

Baby Cot Quilt covers in arrow print by alphabet monkey.com.au

And like our Single bed quilt cover it is also reversible.  this one features the Little Teepee with Tree print on the reverse side. It is piped around all edges and our fabrics are screen printed by hand onto a beautiful soft quality poplin which washes up beautifully.  And best of all the blacks are strong and true and don’t fade after a couple of washes..a problem I had previously found with other fabrics and printers.

And of course our popular Ashkii single bed quilt cover set will be back in stock this month too so we will let you know when it is.  Featuring the black arrow on one side and the modern Teepee Triangle geometric print on the other.

Pinterest Pick; Herringbone Walls

pinterest pick; patterned walls www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

After much procrastination I think I have finalised my own nursery design and I’ve decided to do a wall similar to this.  I did have visions on creating a geometric colour block wall (I’ll have to show you this trend in another post) but I have decided on creating this herringbone feature wall.

I have loved this look since I pinned the image below which is where I first saw this done and I think it is very striking. This would have to be one of my favourite nurseries.. I think the herringbone pattern is a good alternative to a straight chevron which although we may be tiring of, still seems to continue in popularity.

You can find these images and their sources on my girls nursery pinterest board here.
