In the wild.. nursery board

Hello friends,

Welcome to spring… or autumn..depending on where you are.

Firstly I have this super cute nursery board to share with you.  A friend alerted me to this the other week because it includes our Roary the Bear cushion so I headed over the Project Nursery to check it out.

Christy from Belle Studio created this board for her little boy whom she is expecting very soon.  She wasn’t sure which way to go with decorating ..loving both the woodland vibe and the monochrome (black and white) trend.  Since she was starting with a blank canvas of white she decided to combine the two and came up with the above board.

The strong prints and the black and white is softened by the introduction of the woodland stump.  I’ve seen a few nurseries doing this woodland trend and it can sometimes go a bit over the top with wood everywhere ..and then some monochrome nurseries look a bit stark and cold..but this is a clever compromise.

I also really love the colour palette which is a little like a combo I’m thinking of for some new designs next year.

So head over to Project Nursery to find out suppliers of the pictured products..well except Roary the Bear..you can get him right here 🙂

Indis’ Black and White Nursery

Bear Quilt cover by www.blog.alphabetmonkey.com.au

Monochrome nurseries are popular for boys but how about adding a girly touch to our Bear bedding.

You may not have thought of using this for a girl but we just love this gorgeous black and white nursery belonging to a sweet little girl named Indi. It really shows how unisex this black and white linen can be.  And of course it doesn’t look like the monochromatic trend is going anywhere fast.

Indi has a very clever mum, Kat who happens to be the brains behind Chuck and Taz. If you haven’t pimped out your pram with a liner from Chuck and Taz you better head there now. They specialise in super cool pram liners in unisex prints for boys and girls.

So our Black Bear range is available in Quilt covers/duvet covers in both single bed and cot sizes.  It features the bear print of the top and the black arrow on the reverse.  We also have the co- ordinating cot fitted sheets available in bear, white arrow and black arrow prints which are extra large so they will fit your larger cot mattress like a boori.

We named this little guy Roary thanks to a suggestion on Instagram by one of our lovely followers.  He was hand drawn for us by Australian artist Pete Cromer. You can check out his work here.

On the new sewing machine… woodlands

This week has been a busy and exciting week.

First we had a quilt included in the Etsy front page treasury and then the organic geometric wrap got a mention on the Etsy AU facebook page. Then we also got a mention with the same little wrap on the Down that Little Lane instagram feed and to top it off was approached for an interview for an Australian quilting magazine about selling quilts online.

Then I got a super duper fancy new sewing machine..well new to me anyway.  Totally excited about it but still a bit hesitant to use it..I guess it just takes a bit of time to get used to something new.  But I know my husband will be loving how much quieter it is thats for sure.

So I have my mum to thank for this generous gift (or donation to Alphabet Monkey). She upgraded her machine and so I have scored the cast off..which is about 10 steps up from the little machine I have now but which i loved cause it did the job fine.

I’m not sure if I have mentioned before that she is the behind the scenes member of my team..she is an award winning art quilter and has been sewing ever since I can remember.  She finishes off the bindings on all the quilts, helps with this and that when I get busy and also is the knowledge base in this world of sewing which I am relatively new to.

She also used to sew a lot of the quilts up for me when Cam was much smaller and need more attention.  Basically this little operation wouldn’t have come so far without her so thanks mum!!

And so I also have a sneak peek into some new designs.  This little woodland theme also has another quilt with little foxes and more blues mixed in. I just couldn’t help picking out those little toadstools and  it is actually quite gender neutral…well hubby thinks it’s too girly so it may suit some of you who are asking for girls quilts.  I probably will have enough fabric for about 3-4 quilts so it is definitely a very limited edition.

I also have some whales in blues, some adorable monsters and a circus version of the elephant quilt with a vintage fabric mixed in.

I hope to have some pictures for you soon.

A special baby nursery..woodland look

A dear friend of mine just celebrated their baby shower and we had a gorgeous tea party with amazing cakes all whipped up by the hostess and her clever sister.   Summa is a beautiful girl both inside and out and has wanted to be a mum for such a long time, so when the time finally came I was so excited for her.
Just look at her..have you seen a more glowing yummy mummy??

Of course I was very excited to be able to make up a special design quilt for her as a special gift. After much changing of minds summa decided on a woodland theme and painted her very own tree mural. The little shelves on the branches house some cute little parrots and bird houses and will be sure to be filled very soon when the bub of honour arrives.

This aqua, teal, grey scheme is a very contemporary choice and it her quilt incorporates these themes even down to the individual tree appliqués and the tree fabric.

It is possible to make up this little tree motif in other colour combinations and I do currently have the organic tree fabric in grey and yellow. Feel free to email me at nicolenicol@bigpond.com if you have any enquiries…or just comment too i guess..
